Join us at the Oldham County Aquatic Center early July 4th! We are excited to celebrate our independence early with our first cardboard boat race!
Come participate in a boat entirely made by you and your team! Will you sink or sail?
General Rules
-Having Fun is mandatory!
-You will be racing against the clock.
-Number for each team for the event is 2 people.
Awards
Awards will be given to 1st and 2nd place over all winners.
Best Decorated Boat Award.
Titanic Award (Best sink of the Day)
Allowed Supplies/Materials
-Cardboard
-Colored duct tape, or markers. (No paint)
-Hot Glue
Forbidden Materials
-Cardboard that is sealed or coated.
-Fiberglass, resins, or plastic epoxies.
-Metal
-Plastic
-Foam core boards or Styrofoam.
-Metal foils
-Paint
Boat Design
Teams are free to design boats as they wish, creativity in encouraged (so are costumes!), as long as teams use the permitted materials.
Age Requirements
Must be at least 6 years old, and accompanied by an adult. Children MUST know how to swim. Children must be accompanied by an adult (above the age of 18) if the child is under the age of 13.
Final Rules
-Competitors will have 60 seconds to enter the boat before the race begins.
-Races will begin at 9am sharp on July 4th. We ask everyone to arrive at 8:15am to get prepared with their boats and to learn what heat they are in.
-All boats must be staffed by two people.
-All teams must dispose of their boat once the event is completed.
-Teams should ensure the construction of the boat does not include sharp edges or pointed projections that could cause injury.
Once the Event is concluded everyone must exit the pool. This event does not include daily admission into the Oldham County Aquatic Center.
